Catch and Release
Piper went scalloping with Nana off the bay yesterday fully equipped with her snorkel and mask. (She's giving me a tutorial on the left.) Nana testified that Piper even breathed with the snorkel under water!! You go girl! Even though they didn't have any luck finding scallops, Piper scored with a treasure-trove of hermit crabs and one armored looking crab. After thoroughly harassing these brave little crabs, we reluctantly decided to let them live and release them back into the crashing waves near the beach house.

The Oil Spill
http://www.wjhg.com/news/headlines/96732629.html?ref=629
Tar balls washed ashore Panama City beaches today. Panama City is about 45 miles away from Mexico Beach, where we have been staying this past month. So I imagine Mexico Beach will be experiencing the same fate within the next week.
There is such a feeling of despair among the locals. And anger. Anger at the government for not having a sense of immediacy and sitting back for so long watching billions of gallons of oil hemmorrhage into the gulf. Apparently, St. Joseph's Bay-- where Mexico Beach is located-- is the last pristine bay in Florida with sea horses among other creatures. Gulf County started running "boom drills" last week from the county line to the tip of Cape San Blas in an attempt to best protect the bay. They situated it permanently on Monday and I captured a few pictures to share with you.

Scoops Ice Cream
Nana and Pops took the girls out for ice cream at Scoops and without hesitation they decided on a flavor called "Crazy Colors." The woman at the counter asked, "Do you like the clothes they're wearing? 'Cause if you do, you should take them off before they eat this "color." (If I can be so crass, their poop was the exact same color the next day too. Yikes!)
Sorry for the fuzzy pics from my camera phone, but this color had to be documented.
