Tar balls washed ashore Panama City beaches today. Panama City is about 45 miles away from Mexico Beach, where we have been staying this past month. So I imagine Mexico Beach will be experiencing the same fate within the next week.
There is such a feeling of despair among the locals. And anger. Anger at the government for not having a sense of immediacy and sitting back for so long watching billions of gallons of oil hemmorrhage into the gulf. Apparently, St. Joseph's Bay-- where Mexico Beach is located-- is the last pristine bay in Florida with sea horses among other creatures. Gulf County started running "boom drills" last week from the county line to the tip of Cape San Blas in an attempt to best protect the bay. They situated it permanently on Monday and I captured a few pictures to share with you.
